The Water Act 2002 was assented on 17th October, 2002 and commenced operations on 18th March, 2003 tackling Sections 1 to 6, 19 to 24, 46 to 48, 51 to 78, 80 to 83, 90 to 111 and 113- 114. On 29th August, 2003 the remaining sections commenced operations including Section 7, which is responsible for the formation of Water Resources Management Authority (WRMA).
The Water Act 2002 is an Act of Parliament meant to provide for the management, conservation, use and control of water resources and for the acquisition and regulation or rights to use water. This Act is also meant to provide for the regulation and management of water supply and sewerage services; to repeal the Water Act (Cap. 372) and certain provisions of the Local Government Act; and for related purposes.
